ABA intake & onboarding review
Typeform Review
A conversational online forms platform with strong design and conditional logic, occasionally used by ABA agencies as a top-of-funnel inquiry form.
What Typeform does
Typeform is an online forms platform known for its conversational, single-question-per-screen format and design polish. ABA agencies sometimes use it as a top-of-funnel inquiry form on their public website — the form a family fills out before any clinical work begins. The product is not ABA-specific and is not appropriate for forms that collect protected health information on standard plans.
The company has been building forms software since 2012 and is one of the most recognizable forms brands globally, with public pricing, a free tier, and self-serve sign-up.
Who it's for
Typeform's clearest fit for ABA is the inquiry stage — a family lands on the clinic's marketing website, fills out a polished, low-friction form, and the agency receives basic contact and qualification information. It is also a defensible choice for family-experience surveys and NPS tracking, where the design experience matters and the data is not PHI.
It is not the right tool for the rest of intake. Anywhere protected health information is involved — diagnosis, insurance details, clinical history, signed consents — Typeform's standard plans do not offer HIPAA coverage, which makes it inappropriate for the actual intake forms that an ABA agency needs to send.
What stands out
The design experience is the main draw. Typeform's single-question-per-screen format consistently produces higher completion rates than traditional multi-field forms, which matters at the inquiry stage where every drop-off is a lost lead. The conditional logic engine is mature, and the form-design surface is genuinely well-crafted.
Public pricing and self-serve sign-up are also real advantages over enterprise-quote forms tools.
Where it falls short
The HIPAA gap is the deciding factor for most ABA agencies. Typeform's standard plans do not offer HIPAA compliance, which means any field that captures medical information, insurance numbers, or signed consents has to live somewhere else. That single constraint takes Typeform out of the running for the bulk of an agency's intake workflow.
Per-response pricing on lower tiers can also become expensive. An agency processing hundreds of inquiry forms per month might find the response cap on the entry plan tight, and upgrading specifically for response volume can be hard to justify versus an unlimited-response competitor.
The lack of any downstream workflow — no client record, no portal, no integration with clinical platforms — means Typeform is purely a top-of-funnel layer. Everything that happens after a family submits has to live in another tool.
Pricing
Typeform publishes its pricing on the website. Plans start around $25/month with response limits per tier; HIPAA-compliant plans are not part of the standard offering. Confirm current rates at typeform.com/pricing. For ABA agencies, factor in that the rest of intake will need to live elsewhere.
