Email & email marketing for ABA review
Constant Contact Review
A long-running email-marketing platform aimed at small businesses, used by some ABA agencies — particularly older operators — for newsletters and referral-source communications.
What Constant Contact does
Constant Contact is one of the oldest email-marketing platforms aimed at U.S. small businesses, having operated since 1995. The product covers the standard ESP feature set: campaign templates, list management, automation, segmentation, and reporting, plus some bundled extras like event registration and basic landing pages. For ABA agencies, the typical use cases are parent newsletters, referral-source updates, and occasional event invitations.
The product is NOT HIPAA-eligible. Constant Contact does not sign Business Associate Agreements, and the platform isn't architected for healthcare compliance. As with Mailchimp and Klaviyo, any communications touching PHI must live in a HIPAA-eligible tool.
Who it's for
Constant Contact lands cleanly at the small ABA agency whose operator has a prior relationship with the platform — often from a previous business or industry. The hand-holding onboarding, phone support, and familiar interface lower the friction for operators who don't want to learn a new tool.
It's also worth considering for agencies that run formal events as part of their growth or community work — open houses, parent-training workshops, BCBA continuing-education sessions. The bundled event-management features (registration forms, attendee tracking, follow-up sequences) replace what might otherwise be a separate Eventbrite account.
It's less ideal for new agencies starting fresh with no incumbent ESP. Mailchimp's free tier covers more contacts at zero cost; Klaviyo's segmentation depth is meaningfully stronger; and modern operators often find the Constant Contact UI dated.
What stands out
The 30-year operational history is the biggest reputational advantage. Constant Contact has long-established relationships with major spam filter providers, which translates to consistently high deliverability rates. For agencies in regulated industries where email getting through actually matters, that track record has value.
The phone-based customer support is the second standout. Most modern ESPs route to chat or email; Constant Contact still includes phone support on most plans, which less-technical operators consistently rate highly when they hit a problem.
Bundled event management is the third differentiator. Registration forms, attendee tracking, automatic follow-up emails, and basic ticketing replace what would otherwise be Eventbrite + email-tool combinations. For agencies running 4-6 events per year, the bundle saves real money.
Where it falls short
The HIPAA gap is the same constraint as Mailchimp and Klaviyo — no BAA available, can't legally handle PHI. ABA agencies need to keep a clear marketing-vs-clinical split.
No free tier is the second pain point. Small agencies that just want to test the platform have to start a 60-day trial that requires payment information; many operators bounce off this requirement and pick Mailchimp's genuinely free tier instead.
Feature pace is the third trade-off. Constant Contact ships new features at a measured pace compared to Mailchimp and Klaviyo. The platform is reliable but rarely surprises operators with new capabilities. For agencies that want their ESP to keep pace with broader marketing tooling evolution, that pace can feel limiting.
Pricing is also higher than Mailchimp at comparable contact volumes — small agencies are often paying $35-$50/month for what Mailchimp does for free or Klaviyo does for less.
Pricing
Constant Contact's pricing is published transparently. Lite plan starts around $12/month for up to 500 contacts; Standard around $35/month with more automation; Premium around $80/month for larger lists and advanced features. No free tier; 60-day free trial available. Constant Contact does NOT sign BAAs. Confirm current rates at constantcontact.com/pricing.
