ABA data collection software review

Motivity Review

An ABA data collection and clinical platform with strong graphing and behavior-tracking workflows, often used alongside a separate billing tool.

What Motivity does

Motivity is an ABA data collection and clinical platform built specifically for behavior analysis workflows. Where the major all-in-ones (CentralReach, Rethink) try to cover the entire agency surface, Motivity is deliberately focused: programs, data sheets, behavior tracking, and graphing — done well. It is often used alongside a separate billing tool rather than as a single workspace.

The product covers frequency and duration data, ABC narrative recording, custom program-builder workflows, and a graphing engine that BCBAs regularly cite as the strongest in the ABA software market. It is HIPAA-eligible with a Business Associate Agreement available.

Who it's for

Motivity lands cleanly at agencies that prioritize clinical depth over operational consolidation. That includes ABA programs with heavy single-subject experimental work, BCBAs who teach or supervise fieldwork students, and clinics where the BCBA has strong opinions about graphing and visual analysis quality.

It is also a common choice for agencies that have already settled their billing tool — often CentralReach — and want a stronger clinical experience than CentralReach's native data collection module offers.

What stands out

The graphing engine is the standout. Phase-change lines, trend lines, customizable axes, and clean exportable visuals are genuinely better than what most peers offer. For BCBAs who present data to families, supervisors, or payers, that quality matters.

The behavior-tracking workflows are also more thoughtful than most competitors. Capturing ABC narratives, antecedent context, and consequence data in a single session — without forcing the technician through three separate forms — is a daily-time-saver that adds up.

Motivity also plays well with others. Many agencies run Motivity for clinical data and a separate platform (CentralReach, Theralytics, or a dedicated biller) for revenue cycle. The product is built around that pattern rather than fighting it.

Where it falls short

The biggest gap is that Motivity is not a full all-in-one. Billing, payer enrollment, credentialing tracking, and most family-facing workflows live elsewhere. Agencies that want a single platform should look at CentralReach, Rethink, or Theralytics instead.

Scheduling is present but less mature than what dedicated practice management tools offer — particularly around authorization-aware booking and recurring session series. Some agencies pair Motivity's clinical with another tool's scheduling.

The smaller user base means thinner third-party training and a smaller pool of admin hires already familiar with the platform.

Pricing

Motivity uses per-clinician subscription pricing with multiple tiers. Pricing is not always publicly listed; confirm current rates and what each tier includes (data collection, scheduling, family access) directly with the vendor.
