All-in-one ABA practice management review

Rethink Review

An all-in-one ABA platform with strong assessment libraries and parent-training content, sold as part of Rethink First's broader behavioral-health portfolio.

What Rethink does

Rethink (sold under the Rethink First brand) is an all-in-one ABA practice management platform that combines clinical data collection, scheduling, billing, treatment-plan authoring, and a parent-training content library. The product is positioned alongside CentralReach as one of the established mid-to-large players in the ABA software market, with a focus on assessment depth and family education content.

The company was founded in 2007 and has expanded through acquisitions and rebrands to become Rethink First — a parent company that also sells an employer-facing mental-health and benefits product to large U.S. employers. The behavioral-health side is the original product and remains a meaningful part of the business.

Who it's for

Rethink lands most cleanly at small-to-mid agencies (roughly 5–50 providers) that value clinical depth and want parent-training content delivered out of the box rather than assembled from third-party sources. Agencies running school-age learner caseloads tend to rate the assessment library especially well because the platform supports VB-MAPP, ABLLS-R, AFLS, and PEAK in templated workflows rather than as ad-hoc PDF uploads.

It is less ideal for solo BCBAs and 1–5 provider clinics. Like CentralReach, Rethink uses a sales-led motion with annual contracts and quote-only pricing, which adds significant friction for owners who want to be live in days rather than weeks.

What stands out

The assessment library and the parent-training content library are the two clearest reasons agencies pick Rethink over peers. Built-in treatment-plan templates that wrap around VB-MAPP and ABLLS-R cut down on the per-learner setup work BCBAs would otherwise do manually, and the family-coaching content is a meaningful add for agencies that bill a lot of CPT 97156 (caregiver training).

Rethink First's broader portfolio is also a differentiator some agencies care about. Because the parent company sells employer benefits, there is occasional spillover — referrals from employer accounts, or ABA agencies negotiating bundled deals when a parent company is also a Rethink benefits customer. Most agencies will not see this in practice, but it matters at the larger end of the market.

Where it falls short

The biggest operator gripes are commercial rather than clinical. Rethink uses quote-only pricing with annual contracts, mirroring the CentralReach pattern. Multiple public review threads describe extended sales cycles and pressure to commit to multi-year terms. Total cost of ownership for a small agency can come in higher than the operator initially expects.

Several operators describe the UI as feeling older than newer entrants — particularly around graph customization, ad-hoc report building, and the parent-portal experience. The portal works but does not feel branded as the agency. Support quality is reported as variable; the most common complaint is response-time delays rather than answer quality.

Finally, the smaller user base relative to CentralReach means a thinner ecosystem of consultants, third-party trainers, and recorded community knowledge. New admin staff coming from a CentralReach shop usually have to ramp from scratch.

Pricing

Rethink does not publish pricing. Quotes are typically per-provider with annual contracts; some bundling is available where parent-company employer products are involved. Implementation and training are usually priced separately. Operators evaluating Rethink should request a written quote and confirm contract length, auto-renewal terms, and module-level pricing before signing.
