What Documo does

Documo is a modern online fax service positioned between SRFax's small-clinic affordability and eFax's enterprise depth. The product covers inbound and outbound fax via web, email, mobile app, and API, with a particular emphasis on developer-friendly integration. HIPAA-eligible Business Associate Agreements are available on most plan tiers.

The company is newer to the market than eFax — founded in 2017 — but has grown by being explicitly designed for healthcare and other compliance-heavy industries. The API-first orientation makes it the right pick for agencies that want to automate fax workflows or integrate fax into their clinical platform.

Who it's for

Documo's clearest fit is the mid-size ABA agency with technical capacity to use the API for workflow automation. Common use cases include automated prior authorization fax submissions, programmatic referral acknowledgments, and integration with clinical platforms that expose fax events to other parts of the agency stack.

It is also a defensible choice for agencies that simply want a more modern fax UI than what eFax offers but with stronger compliance posture than the cheapest options.

It is less ideal for solo BCBAs sending a handful of faxes per month — at that volume, SRFax is meaningfully cheaper. It is also less ideal for agencies whose primary concern is brand recognition with counterparties, where eFax's reputation has more weight.

What stands out

The API and developer experience are the standout. Where SRFax and eFax both offer APIs, Documo's is genuinely modern — RESTful, well-documented, with webhook support. For agencies with engineering capacity, that opens up automation that is harder to build on legacy platforms.

The web UI is the second standout. Where eFax's interface feels like a legacy product, Documo's compares favorably with newer SaaS tools. Operators who use the platform daily report better usability.

HIPAA support without an enterprise tier upgrade is also notable. Most plan tiers include the BAA, which is more accessible than eFax's Corporate gating.

Where it falls short

Brand recognition is lower than eFax. For agencies whose fax workflows touch many external parties, that occasionally creates friction — counterparties who have not heard of Documo sometimes ask follow-up questions before accepting a fax number.

The pricing is higher than SRFax for low-volume solo operators. The cheapest Documo plan starts above SRFax's entry-level, which makes SRFax a better pick for very small fax volumes.

The healthcare-compliance track record is shorter than eFax's. Most agencies will not encounter issues, but compliance-heavy organizations sometimes prefer providers with longer track records during vendor due diligence.
